Inside Our Birth Center Suites: Comfort, Safety, and a Natural Birth Experience
Where you give birth matters. Our suites let you move freely during labor, eat and drink when you need to, and surround yourself with the people who support you best — all in one private room designed for your comfort.

The room where you labor influences how you move, what positions feel possible, who can stay close to you, and whether you feel like a patient or a person bringing new life into the world.

At The Birth Center of New Jersey in Union, New Jersey, our birthing suites are built around the idea that birth works better when you’re comfortable, supported, and in control of your surroundings.

Wondering how birth center suites differ from a traditional hospital setting? Here’s what you can expect.

What birth center suites offer

Birth center suites are private rooms built for labor and delivery outside a hospital. These spaces let you move freely, choose positions that feel right, and shape the atmosphere during your birth.

Our suites meet all local, state, and federal health, fire, and safety regulations. The Birth Center of New Jersey operates under the State Department of Health licensing with professionally accredited and licensed midwives who have years of experience supporting families.

How birth center suites differ from hospital labor rooms

The physical space reflects a philosophy that treats pregnancy and birth as natural body processes rather than medical emergencies. This difference shows up in concrete ways throughout your time here. A few unique qualities about our birth center suites include:

You stay in one room

You settle into your suite in early labor and stay there through delivery and the first hours with your baby. There are no transfers to different rooms as labor progresses, no moves during transition, and no interruptions to your space when you need consistency most.

You make the decisions

In our suites, you move however your body needs to move. You can eat and drink when you’re hungry or thirsty and bring the people who support you best — your partner, doula, children, or family members. Hospital policies often restrict these choices. Birth center suites like ours don’t.

Your labor unfolds at its own pace without pressure to speed things up or slow them down. Research shows that birth center care leads to fewer cesarean sections and reduced preterm births compared to hospital deliveries for healthy, low-risk pregnancies.

The cost is usually lower than a hospital birth, too, and most insurance companies cover accredited birth center care.

A look inside our birth center suites

Each birthing suite includes equipment that supports how your body works during labor, such as:

  • Beds that work for multiple birthing positions
  • Birthing stools for upright delivery
  • Large tubs for water birth
  • Private bathroom
  • Temperature, lighting, and sound controls

You adjust everything to match your needs. Dim the lights, play your music, set the temperature. The suite is yours during your birth. Many families go home 4-8 hours after delivery instead of staying for a multi-day hospital admission.

Creating your preferred birth environment

The suites are designed with enough space for your support people to stay close throughout labor and birth. There’s room for your partner to rest, space for your doula to provide hands-on comfort, and privacy for the intimate moments between contractions.

Our midwives monitor you and your baby while respecting the space you’ve created, offering guidance when helpful and working with the rhythm of your labor.

Safety within a home-like setting

The suites meet medical safety requirements while looking and feeling nothing like hospital rooms. You get warmth and freedom with professional care and emergency readiness in one space.

We check on you and your baby throughout labor without constant interference. Vital signs, fetal heart rate, and your comfort all get attention, but monitoring happens around your needs rather than on a fixed schedule. Our midwives provide clinical oversight while preserving the calm, personal atmosphere you’ve created in your suite.

At The Birth Center of New Jersey, your birth environment should work for your body and give you confidence in your safety. Our suites provide space to labor the way you need while ensuring you and your baby receive skilled care.
